Frequently asked questions
What are you known for?
Korean cooking built on house-made jang. Chef Soojin Kim makes ganjang (soy sauce), doenjang (soybean paste) and gochujang (chili paste) from maeju, aged in onggi crocks, along with kimchi and jangajji each year. They season everything on our menu, and vegetarian dishes are marked on it.
What meals do you serve?
Dinner, à la carte. During our soft opening we are open 5 to 9 pm Sunday, Monday and Wednesday, and 5 to 10 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Closed Tuesdays. Hours will expand once we are fully open.

What areas do you serve?
We are on Claremont Avenue in Rockridge, Oakland, and welcome guests from Upper Rockridge, Claremont, Elmwood, Temescal, North Oakland, Bushrod, South Berkeley, Piedmont Avenue, Mosswood, Hiller Highlands, Downtown Berkeley, Piedmont and Emeryville.
How far are you from Rockridge BART?
About a nine-minute walk (0.4 mile) up College Avenue. If you drive, there is street parking on Claremont and Chabot.
Can you host a private event?
Yes. The back room seats 18, a full buyout seats 45 or 70 standing, and we cater off-site for 20 to 400 guests. Email team@chezmaeju.com.
