Accessibility

Everyone at the table.

Last reviewed 09-25-2026

Chez Maeju is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, or magnification.

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced under the Americans with Disabilities Act and California's Unruh Civil Rights Act. Accessibility is not a one-time fix, so we test this site as we change it.

What this website does

  • Every page can be operated by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a “Skip to content” link.
  • Text and background colors meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required for body text.
  • Headings and landmarks are structured so screen readers can navigate by section.
  • Images carry text alternatives; decorative artwork is hidden from assistive technology.
  • The layout reflows without horizontal scrolling down to a 320-pixel screen and at 200% text zoom.
  • Animation is reduced automatically when your device requests it.
  • The full menu is real text, not a picture of a menu, so it can be read aloud, enlarged, or translated.
  • Each release is tested with automated checks (axe-core) plus manual keyboard and screen-reader passes.

The accessibility button

The round button in the lower-left corner of every page opens settings you can turn on at any time: bigger text, high contrast, reduced motion, underlined links, and wider letter and line spacing. Your choices are remembered on your device.

We build these controls into the site ourselves. We do not use a third-party accessibility overlay, because overlays sit on top of the page without correcting the underlying code.

Visiting the restaurant

Chez Maeju is at 6200 Claremont Avenue in Oakland. If you have a question about entry, seating, restrooms, or anything else about the dining room, please call us at (510) 338-3572 before you come and we will tell you exactly what to expect and hold a table that works for you.

Our team is glad to read the menu aloud, describe dishes, and accommodate service animals.

Services we do not control

Some features rely on outside companies — online reservations, maps, and social media. We choose accessible providers where we can, but we cannot guarantee their content. If any of them blocks you, call (510) 338-3572 and we will book your table or answer your question directly.

Tell us what is not working

If you run into a barrier on this site, we want to hear about it — it is the fastest way for us to fix it. Please include the page and what happened.

We respond within two business days.
